Privacy policy.

§ 01

Who I am & scope

This is the personal blog of Nishant Dahal, a content strategist and digital marketing consultant based in Kathmandu, Nepal, published at nishantdahal.com. This policy explains what information I collect from visitors, subscribers, and commenters, why I collect it, and how you can control it. It applies to this site only, not to any third-party service I link to or mention.

§ 02

Information I collect

I collect what you voluntarily give me: name, email, and message when you use the contact form; name, email, and comment text when you post a comment; and your email address when you subscribe to the newsletter. I also collect limited technical data automatically — IP address, browser and referrer information, and basic page-view analytics — described next.

§ 03

Cookies & analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4, which sets cookies and sends data to Google for processing under Google's own privacy policy, including IP-level information handled by Google. I also record lightweight first-party page-view counts — path, referrer, and an anonymous session ID — without cookies. Bing Webmaster Tools verifies the site but sets no visitor cookies. You can block cookies in your browser or opt out of Google Analytics using Google's browser add-on.

§ 04

How I use your information

I use the information collected to operate and maintain the site, respond to messages sent through the contact form, moderate and display comments, deliver "The Second Draft" newsletter to subscribers, and understand readership — which posts resonate, where readers come from, and how the site performs — so I can improve future writing and design.

§ 05

Sharing & third-party processors

I do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone, for any purpose. Limited data is shared with the processors who help run this site: Google (Analytics), my newsletter provider (for sending "The Second Draft" and managing subscriptions), and my hosting provider (for storing site data). Each handles information under its own privacy terms, only to the extent needed to provide its service.

§ 06

Data retention

Contact form messages, including your IP address, are retained while our conversation is active and deleted once it's resolved unless you ask otherwise. Comment data is retained for as long as the comment stays published. First-party analytics records are pruned periodically rather than kept indefinitely. Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe, at which point it is removed from the provider's list.

§ 07

Your rights

Regardless of where you live, you may ask me to access, correct, or delete the personal data I hold about you, or object to how it's used — rights modeled on the GDPR and similar frameworks. To exercise any of these, email contact@nishantdahal.com with your request; I will respond and act on it within a reasonable period, typically a few weeks.

§ 08

Security

I take reasonable technical measures to protect the information you share, including serving the site exclusively over HTTPS and limiting access to stored data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and I cannot guarantee absolute protection against every possible threat. If I become aware of a breach affecting your data, I will notify you promptly.

§ 09

Changes & contact

I may update this policy as the site or the services it relies on evolve. Each revision is dated at the top of this page, and material changes — anything that meaningfully affects how your data is handled — will be announced to newsletter subscribers by email. Questions about this policy can be sent anytime to contact@nishantdahal.com.
